Mail Spool Files in MailBounce

Current Release: v6.0, May 2003

This file describes the formatting requirements for your bounce file if you would like to have MailBounce "export" unrecognized bounces to a separate file.

MailBounce can export unrecognized bounces only if your bounce file is in one of the formats shown below. If your bounce file is in one of these formats, then you should have MailBounce process the mailbox file directly, rather than save your bounces to a separate file and then have MailBounce process the external file. (It will work just fine either way, but you will have several more features and capabilities available to you if MailBounce is processing a bounce file that is in a recognized spool-file format.)

The valid spool file formats are:

  • "Mail spool" format. This includes Eudora mailboxes on Mac and Windows systems, and any standard mailbox on a Unix system. This does not include files that are saved externally from Eudora using "Save As..."; you must process the Eudora mailbox directly.

  • "Outlook Express" format. MailBounce knows how to process Outlook Express 4.x mail folders on both Macintosh and Windows systems. This does not include files that are saved externally from Outlook Express using "Save As..."; you must process the Outlook Express mail folder directly.

  • LetterRip Bounce Digests. MailBounce can parse LetterRip bounce digests and convert them to mail spool format "on the fly."

If your bounce file is not in one of the recognized formats, MailBounce will not be able to export unrecognized bounces. (It will write a notification message into the export file in that event.)

If you have a requirement for a mail client or file format that is not currently supported, contact the developer at support@web.mailbounce.biz, and we will do our best to support that format.
